At least two soldiers lost their lives yesterday in an attempt by the authorities of the Three Armoured Division of the Army in Jos to clean up the armoury. The victims were blown up accidentally at Maxwell Khobe Cantonment as they packed expired ammunition meant for destruction, a military spokesman said, confirming two deaths. Colonel Sani said via Facebook: “Some of the unserviceable ammunition exploded in the process of moving them to the demolition site in the bush. Unfortunately, two soldiers lost their lives and one sustained injuries.” The explosion occurred at about 9:45 a.m. triggering pandemonium in a city that has witnessed several bomb explosions in the last few years. Sound of the explosion was heard across the city and its environs. The barrack was immediately cordoned off as a pre-cautionary measure.
