It seems that at this point, Arsenal fans would take any defender in the world to strengthen their backline - and Arsene Wenger is still getting it in the neck for his transfer inertia.
The Gunners faithful reacted angrily on Monday when Jonny Evans was linked to the club.
And news that Everton had swooped for Ashley Williams did nothing to calm them, as they saw the defender as a perfect candidate to add defensive depth to the Arsenal squad.
From calls for the manager to wake up, to frustration at missing out on a "bargain", Twitter heard from fans once the deal was confirmed.
We should have signed Ashley Williams at @Arsenal

Arsenal desperate for a centre back, the best British one is available in Ashley Williams, and we let him move to Everton. #AFC

Ashley Williams to Everton is done. If I was an Arsenal fan, I might wonder if #afc could've gone in for him too.

Reliable & a leader.
We better sign Mustafi. Williams would have been perfect for us for the transition period. Cheap, experienced and a leader. @Arsenal #afc

Would have taken Ashley Williams any day at Arsenal.
Miles better than Mertesacker & Gabriel.Would've made us rock-solid at the back.#afc

Whoever saying they wouldn't have wanted Ashley Williams at Arsenal is lying to themselves. Absolute bargain! #MeanwhileAtArsenal

Everton signing a bargain with Ashley Williams. Wenger said we are after 'experienced CB's'. Is he not a experienced CB? Frustration.
